The idea

The rehabilitation of physically challenged people was the main aim of The Fürst Donnersmarck foundation in Berlin. In the early 90's it was decided that a large investment was justifiable. Past positive experience was established by the in 1972 opened guesthouse for handicapped people in Bad Bevensen in the Lüneburger Heide.

This enhanced the need for another guesthouse which incorporates the special needs of handicapped people, as well as all the comforts of a holiday resort.

Influenced by the impression of the new Germany and the fall of the Berlin wall, the management and the curator choose the new area of the Federal Republic Brandenburg. A project group of the foundation investigated a number of viable locations and decided on Rheinsberg where a 14 000 m2 property on the lake was for sale. Smaller than recommended but the attractiveness concluded the decision to establish the hotel and the HausRheinsberg gGmbH was founded.

So not to disturb nature and the monument protection law of the Prussian castle and gardens, a low building structure was strived for. The Munich architect office Sommersberger designed a hotel complex with 3 guest wings and one central building consisting of common rooms like a restaurant, seminar rooms, swimming pool, fitness centre, skittle alley as well as a big multi purpose hall " die Seehalle". The architect Stephan Wildgruber living in Munich worked closely with the Berlin architect office Dr Pawlik who took expertise leadership over the planning, supervision and construction.

With an investment of approximately 60 million DM, to which the "Investitionsbank des Landes Brandenburg" granted a subsidy of 7,5 million DM, a multipurpose barrier free hotel for handicapped guests with 108 guest rooms and well over 150 beds was established.

HausRheinsberg offers individual recovery with carefully selected leisure programs to promote a unity between body and soul.
